Tenafly Plans to Add Lightining Warniing System for Open Fields In Town

The monitoring system for the project is in its planning stages and will be located at the DPW. Recreation Director Matthew Mercurio said the borough will be purchasing a base unit that gets linked into a computer monitoring program that lets officials see lightning strikes all over the country and can also be used for other weather issues.

The base will cost between $7,000 and $10,000 and will get hooked up to alerting units which cost $1,000 each. The borough will be implementing 14 units at various parks, common areas, clubs, fields and recreation areas in the borough. The borough would also be able to set the radius, Mercurio said, though manufacturing recommends between five and ten miles.
