A proposed ordinance would restrict construction of two-family homes in Tenafly to lots of 10,000 square-feet or more….The current R7.5 zone, is the only zoning in the borough to allow two-family homes – which has led to a proliferation of new two-family homes being built……
“If you open up the classifieds, and look at the sales today, what you find out is that new two-family homes for sale are going for million-dollars plus on each side, so they’re no longer affordable, they’re no longer an entrée for new, young families that come into Tenafly,” he said at the July 10 council meeting where the ordinance was first discussed. “What they are is a profit center for developers.”…..
The planning board is proposing a R7.5A where two-family homes would no longer be acceptable for new construction, though existing two-family homes will be able to remain.
